Fox Acres Reflections
Long time residents of Fox Acres share what the memories they have of living in the Fox Acres community.
Fox Acres Reflections from Laura Beard
Our enjoyment of Fox Acres began over twenty years ago when the golf course beckoned us to join. The friendships made and fun times continue to make our lives meaningful and hearts happy. The beautiful yet challenging golf course keeps us active after all these years, and being able to play at all different levels fits our changing lifestyle. Just gazing out on the course and pond, watching wildlife traversing by our deck, and enjoying nature within the community give us great joy. But, the life-long friendships made offer the best benefits. The parties, entertaining games, and lively conversations keep us positive, active and happy. The sincere support and care given during challenging times along with laughter and sharing all the community offers bring joy and contentment to our lives.

Fox Acres Reflections from Gayle and Jeff Booms
Over twenty years ago we were introduced to Fox Acres and were instantly charmed! Where else could we find a mountain home that doesn’t include travel on I-70, has a beautiful challenging golf course, doesn’t require a well or septic system, where the roads are maintained, all within a gated community? It became a quest to find a way to actually have a home here so that we could truly enjoy what it offers!

What makes it so special for us? We were drawn in by the magical feeling we have when we arrive to the gate, roll down the windows and take a deep breath of the crisp mountain air. But much more than that has kept us here - it’s also the friends we have made. The Golf Club has
given us the gathering spot to enjoy the friendships of so many over these years. Though some have moved on, and we’ve lost a few we find that others fill those voids as wonderful additions to our community of thoughtful, helpful, fun, happy people.

Most every morning and evening we marvel at this incredible setting. Looking out over the beautifully groomed course, the pristine lakes, and the mountains, is never tiresome. Even in winter the peacefulness is calming. We enjoy watching the many varieties of birds, the lowly
chipmunks, squirrels and bunnies, deer, turkeys, moose, elk, and occasional bobcats; always causing us to pause.

We are all most fortunate to live in this wonderful Fox Acres.

Fox Acres Reflections from Frank and Till Tranzow
In 1965, we moved to Kansas City where we met John and Jeannine Stenzel who became friends for life. Little did we know that their family was to build Fox Acres where our family has enjoyed amazing friends, golf and outdoor fun for 39 years since 1985.
In our first 18 years, we were summertime member/guests. Time seemed to fly with golf fun and competition, trout fishing in and out of the club, bicycling, local hiking, tennis and wading and swimming. The highlight was always enjoying new friendships with summer neighbors from around the country.
In 1998 we built our dream house in Fox Acres. After settling into Red Feather, we moved our official residence from southern California to Colorado. Our lifestyle slowed and changed. Visitors were frequent and left for home thinking of their next visit to the Fox Acres community. Life’s stories brought laughter and tears of joy.
Till and I gave a commitment to a life “for better or worse”. Fox Acres has provided us much of the “better” for almost 40 years.

Fox Acres Reflections from Jane and Steve Ray
As we drive into Fox Acres, we are greeted by a sign saying, “Welcome Home,” followed by “We Miss You!” What a meaningful greeting we receive as we respond, “We Missed You Too!” There are so many things that we’ve missed, like the gorgeous majestic mountains and beautiful trees and wildflowers. The sky is a color people don’t often see: a bright blue that never fades, even when big, puffy white clouds are present. Occasionally, those clouds turn dark, and we know rain is on the way, but we even relish those moments because that is an opportunity to be still and listen to the rain hit the roof as it nourishes the ground beneath us. The gift of rain is often followed by bringing back the wildflowers that color our world. Pine trees are among us, letting out that beautiful pine-scented fragrance, especially after the rains. The aspen trees rustle in the breeze, shimmering with bright yellows, oranges, and golds, but the thing many of us miss most while we’re not here is the majestic mountains that surround us everywhere we look.
When we are back at Fox, we see so many beautiful animals, which once again bring us joy every day. We are blessed with clear lakes abundant with fish, spry little squirrels, and rabbits around every corner. Stubby-tailed bobcats are occasionally seen, and beautiful bucks with big racks, and does with little ones following close behind. Although not everyone’s favorite residents on the golf course, there are quick, sneaky little marmots popping their heads up often to distract the golfers. Also, families of geese can be found on the march, with “mom” heading up a crew of five or six babies and “dad” bringing up the rear. They usually move to find a cool, calm lake to bathe in on a hot summer day. Watching the Fox Acres animals brings us a lot of pleasure, stimulating conversation and picture sharing.
However, these are not the only things that bring us pleasure. Having had a home at Fox Acres for over thirty years, we have made many friends. It is these friends that we miss the most when we are away! We have made close friends from all over the country, from coast to coast, and all the states in between. These people are our hiking buddies and our golfing buddies. They share meals with us and play games like pickleball and various card games, ending a busy day with conversation while sitting on the patio watching the sunset. They are the kind of neighbors who share their laughter and love freely and would move heaven and earth to be there when you are in need. Fox Acres is blessed to be called home by generous, kind, caring and fun-loving individuals, and it is these friends who make it our favorite place to be!

Fox Acres Reflections from Diane and Bryce Bignall
Finding Fox Acres was our "Great Discovery in 2013". A hidden treasure in the Red Feather Lakes area within a private, gated community with a golf club, 13 lakes and a full time HOA. For us, golfing, fishing and living in the mountains was a return to our earlier years in Washington and Oregon. As a full-time homeowner, you can live as private or public life as you wish, with nature's beauty everywhere. We love living among the incredible rock formations, aspen and pine on 460 acres, surrounded by the Roosevelt National Forest. We revel in the serenity of Fox Acres and appreciate each time we return from the rapid pace of the Front Range to the tranquility and cooler mountain temperatures. An added benefit, we have many services such as gas, hardware, restaurants and grocery stores 1-2 miles away in Red Feather Lakes. If we need anything else, Fort Collins is just 50 minutes away. If that's not enough, the surrounding area of Red Feather Lakes offers many recreational activities such as fishing in its many public lakes as well as hiking, biking and camping nearby.
We appreciate our unique HOA who provides security, paved roads, fire hydrants, water, sewer, snow removal to your door and many sports options. Plus the exceptional Golf Club at Fox Acres with its clubhouse and golf course. It's hard to believe we live in such a beautiful place with gorgeous views, wildflowers and occasional wildlife. If you have not yet discovered Fox Acres, please take a trip to our hidden treasure and step back in time to enjoy mountain living in Red Feather Lakes with more outdoor activities, including Dowdy Reservoir 5 minutes away. We hope you will visit Fox Acres and find your "Mountain Retreat"!
We appreciate the wonderful neighbors and friends who care about each other.

Fox Acres Reflections from Larry Lyon
I love to follow the flight of the golf into a cloudless blue sky.
I love seeing a large moose staring at me from a near-by glen.
I love seeing and hearing the whistling marmots in the fairway.
I love waiting for two deer crossing in front of me before taking my next shot.
I love seeing a rainbow trout jumping out of the water to catch a fly for lunch.
I love watching a rarely seen bald eagle diving for dinner into a near-by lake.
I love playing golf when I am surrounded by the wilderness, beauty and silence of Fox Acres.
I love sharing these exclusive features with neighbors, friends and fellow golfers who spend most of their time crying over missed putts.
Wait I just saw two hummingbirds kissing wildflowers that must be added to my love list.
All of us especially love Ray Stenzel and family for creating Fox Acres.

Fox Acres Reflections from Monika and Al Koenig
We have lived in Fox Acres almost twenty years in two different homes. The location is ideal. Far enough up the mountain but close enough for shopping and most everything else you need in Fort Collins. The beauty of the community was a big draw for us. The lakes, golfing, and hiking. We love the amenities, the biggest being snow plowing. When looking at other properties on the mountain, there just isn’t anything available with paved plowed roads right to your doorstep. The social event options including coffee, Bunco, golf, game nights and many others has led to lasting friendships.
